Fremont Art Association

Monthly Guest Artist Demonstrations:

Our general meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 7pm in the Gallery (with the exception of August and December). At each meeting a guest artist presents a lecture or demonstration of a particular medium. Demonstrations vary from month to month and may be pastel, watercolor, painting techniques on fabric, pottery, or fused glass.

Year Round Cooperative Gallery:

The association operates a member gallery in the historic Niles district of Fremont. Original artwork can be purchased at reasonable prices. Each quarter starts off with a wine and hors d'oeurvres reception for the new exhibit. Participating members rent space and staff once a month. We average 35 to 40 artists per quarter.

Individual Artist Showcases:

In addition to our quarterly shows, we offer member artists an opportunity for their work to be featured in one of four individual artist showcases each year.

Art in the Garden:

The Fremont Art Association and Regan’s Nursery team up for Art in the Garden one weekend each summer at the Nursery located at 4268 Decoto Road, Fremont. The Nursery is the garden setting where the artists create and exhibit drawing, painting, pottery work, ceramic pieces, fiber art, handmade soaps, lovely garden hats, and create jewelry as well as exhibit photography. Also the artists create art among the profusion of colorful blossoms everywhere and are accompanied by live music. There is a wide variety of art available for sale each year.

Open Studios:

Open Studios provide people in and outside of the community the opportunity to view and purchase original works of art from many of the acomplished artists in the Tri City area. Tri City Artists Open Studios is an annual event. See the publicity postcard. 2012 Open Studios Application

Annual Open Juried Art Show:

6th Annual Plein Air Paint Out:

In its efforts to promote art in the community, the Fremont Art Association will hold a one day Plein Air Paint Out at the Dominican Sisters 26 acre estate behind Mission San Jose at 43326 Mission Blvd., in Fremont, CA. on Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Artists will paint until 2:00 PM, followed by an exhibit and reception in the courtyard from 2:30 to 3:30 PM.  The public is welcome. The event is being cosponsored by The Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, Olive Hyde Art Guild, the Fremont Cultural Arts Council, and Mission Coffee Roasting Company, who will provide coffee and mini-pastries for the artists at registration time.  It will be open to both FAA members and non-members, with members paying a $15.00 entry fee and non-members paying $25.00.  For non-members this will also include full membership in the Fremont Art Association through the end of the year.  All 2-dimensional mediums will be accepted, to include oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels and mixed media.

The Artists are not limited to painting on the Dominican Sisters 26 acre estate; they can choose to paint (plein air) outside the campus, as well as any outdoor location of their choice within the city of Fremont, and not from a reference photograph.  You will find inspiration in many locations throughout the property with all the wildlife, sculptures, architecture, chapels, and statues among the landscaped lawns, trees and plants, all backed by the Niles/Mission San Jose Hills, as well as offsite locations such as Mission San Jose including Mission Blvd’s old town area and downtown Niles.

Artists should bring all their supplies needed to paint, including an easel and chair if needed. A late lunch will be provided for the artist’s when they return for the reception and exhibit. If you have restrictions or can’t wait you should make sure to have a bag lunch and drinking water for the day.  Hats and umbrellas are encouraged.  All participants must be at least 18 years old.

Pre-registration is encouraged, with a mail-in registration deadline of September 12, 2013 in order to be included on the event poster. Registration applications and rules can be picked up at the FAA Gallery, at 37697 Niles Blvd., Fremont, CA.

Check-in will be from 8:00 - 10:00 AM at the registration table which will be located on the grass between the Dominican Sister’s Motherhouse and courtyard entrance at 43326 Mission Blvd., Fremont, CA. Take Mission Tierra off of Mission Blvd. then left at Dominican Terrace to get to the main parking lot and college office, at which time artists’ blank canvases or papers will be stamped on the back. Multiple canvases or papers can be stamped, though only one finished piece will be accepted from each artist at the end of the Paint Out.

Completed pieces must be returned to the courtyard, by 2:00 PM for the reception and exhibition of completed pieces for public viewing and optional silent auction from 2:30 PM -3:30PM.The exhibition will include an Artist’s Choice as well as a People’s Choice” voting and monetary awards where spectators will vote for their favorite works. Photos of the pieces receiving awards may be used in publicity for next years’ Paint Out event and may also be shown on the FAA website, (see above URL ).  All works submitted for the People’s Choice and/or silent auction must be framed; including matting for works on paper. No exceptions.

We hope artists from all over The Bay Area will join us for our 6th annual Plein Air Paint Out sponsored jointly by the Fremont Art Association, Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, Olive Hyde Art Guild, Fremont Cultural Arts Council and Mission Coffee Roasting Company. Mark your calendar and plan to participate in this fun event.  For more information call Robyn at (510) 656-4939.
