BEYOND the SURFACE: A collection of watercolor/collage paintings on paper and YUPO by Grace Rankin

The Fremont Art Association is pleased to announce Grace Rankin; the associations second quarter Showcase Artist! The showcase, “Beyond the Surface” will be on display from Saturday, April 12 through Sunday April 27 at the Fremont Art Associations Gallery located at 37659 Niles Boulevard in Fremont.

Award winning artist and teacher, Grace Rankin’s paintings possess a vital energy and presence that reflect the sensitivity and color sense of this natural artist. There is nothing contrived or superfluous in her work. When asked how she expresses herself in her paintings, Grace says that she thinks of her paintings as vehicles for feelings and moods as well as ideas.

Don’t miss this opportunity to see her collection of beautiful watercolor/collage paintings and watercolors on YUPO. YUPO is a synthetic material that is smooth and water-repellant. The watercolors are carefully layered and allowed to dry to achieve the desired texture and design.

You can meet the artist at a reception held in her honor at the gallery on Sunday, April 13 from 1:30 – 4:00pm. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served. A variety of new works from additional member artists will be exhibited at the gallery. Please join with your community in celebrating this award-winning artist.

TEXTURE and SELF-PORTRAITURE IN THE DIGITAL AGE!

Myrna Wacknov will be presenting a 4 day workshop at the Fremont Art Association Gallery on May 30 through June 2. This workshop is for those artists who are looking for a shift in their work from copying a photograph to interpreting and image in some new and exciting ways. We will be working with our own faces but the ideas and techniques learned can be applied to any subject.

Taking advantage of the amazing power of our electronic devices, we will take a self- portrait using an IPAD or IPHONE or equivalent device, learn how to use the Photoshop app PS Touch to manipulate the image in creative ways then transform some of those ideas into paintings.

The classic approach of designing a painting using the Elements of Design will be combined with utilizing unexplored materials, tools, techniques and pairings. Each day will start with the element of Texture, plus a focus on one additional element. Workshop fee is $300.00.
